Once our dogs celebrate their 10th birthday (some say 7th), they begin shrinking.
Well, not really, but let me explain…
By the time they reach 7-10 years (depending on the breed and size), they may have lost as much as 25% of their lean muscle mass. 😯
In both humans and dogs, this age-related muscle loss (also known as sarcopenia) increases the risk for falls and fractures, reduces mobility, and lowers quality of life.
As if this wasn’t enough, muscles are important for overall body metabolism, and sarcopenia starts a downward cascade of decline.
The good news is that it is preventable, and older dogs can be happy, healthy, and strong when they get the right exercise and plenty of high-quality protein.
But how much protein do dogs need?
I’m developing new resources to help you optimize your dog’s diet, and I would love your help. 🙏
Completing this survey will help my team and I understand your concerns about feeding and exercising mature dogs and answer your questions.
We all know our dogs get better and better as they age, and making sure that they are well is the least we can do for them.
